CooMeet at a glance

CooMeet describes itself as a video dating social network built around video chat with new people. You turn on your webcam, press search, and get matched with someone for a live one-to-one video conversation. There are no long registration forms before you can start.

Its standout feature is automatic translation: messages you type are translated into your chat partner's language, and theirs into yours. CooMeet says this is included for free, where some similar apps charge extra for it.

What we like

  • Free automatic message translation
  • Quick start with no long sign-up form
  • Works in the browser and as an iPhone app
  • Clear support contact for problems

What to watch for

  • The best features need a paid Premium plan
  • Premium includes a set number of minutes, so heavy users may need more
  • Extra features are bought with in-app coins
  • Adults only (18+)

How CooMeet works

  1. Open the app or website and allow camera access.
  2. Choose your partner's language if you want, then press Search.
  3. Chat face to face. If the conversation isn't a fit, press End and search again.
  4. Type messages during the call. They're translated automatically.

Pricing

CooMeet is free to download, with paid upgrades. These are the Premium plans listed on the official App Store page at the time of writing (US prices):

PlanIncludesPrice
3 months PremiumPremium access + 70 minutes$39.99
6 months PremiumPremium access + 100 minutes$49.99

CooMeet also sells in-app coins ("CooCoins") for extras. Prices can differ by country and platform, so check the price shown in the app before you pay.

Tip: The 6-month plan costs only $10 more than the 3-month plan and includes more minutes, so it's better value if you know you'll keep using it.

Privacy and safety

CooMeet says it uses encryption for its video streams and that chats can't be recorded or interrupted by others. As with any video chat app, protect yourself:

  • Never share your full name, address, workplace or social media with someone you just met.
  • Don't send money or payment details to anyone you meet in a chat.
  • End the call and report anyone who makes you uncomfortable.
  • Read the app's privacy policy to see what data it collects.

For problems or complaints, CooMeet lists its support email as support@coomeet.com. The app is published by Gartwell LTD.

Who is CooMeet for?

CooMeet suits adults who want quick, face-to-face conversations with new people, especially across languages, thanks to the built-in translation. If you only want free, unlimited chatting, a fully free app may suit you better. We'll compare those as our other reviews go live.

Our verdict

CooMeet is easy to start, and free translation is a genuinely useful feature for meeting people from other countries. The main thing to weigh is cost: to get the most from it you'll want Premium, which comes with a set number of minutes. If that fits how you plan to use it, it's worth trying.
